Ok, so this is maybe the GREATEST WoW GLITCH EVER
Yes, I in fact do have a Gnoll as a pet now.

The pet is obtained through a rather hilarious glitch with the final quest in the short quest-chain, "the cleansing" available to both alliance and horde.
NOTE: If you have already completed the quest-chain while you were leveling, you cannot do it again, and you're basically SOL. If not, you need to be at least level 71, be specced as survival, and not have an active pet(meaning: free up a spare stable slot and put all your pets int he stable, leaving yourself with no pet equipped)
It helps if you bring a friend, because it's very much one of those "timing is everything" situations, and you need to be very, very precise. Took me like 10 tries to get the timing right.
The questline starts with Sage Mistwalker.
What you do is: complete all the other pre-requisite quests(all are super easy) until you receive the quest "Alpha Worg". For alpha worg you are granted a special vision mode, where you see a giant white wolf, Garwal.
--
This tame can be done solo, but it is very tricky, so I reccomend having two hunters to minimise the pain. Assuming you have two hunters: - Hunter 1: is the tamer - Hunter 2: the sleeper.
--
Hunter 1 unequips his/her melee weapons (the mob only has 13k hp), as at level 80 you will kill it too fast with a weapon. using no stings or huge damage shots(no explosive shot), pull Garwal to you, and start hitting him with your fists.
at level 80 you hit rather hard, I was hitting for about 800-1000 per hit, so it was tricky to not go below where I needed to be damage wise.
What you do is you hit him till he's at about 8000 hp, and then switch on aspect of the viper, which cuts your melee damage in half, giving you slightly more control. You keep hitting him till he is between just below 7600 and above 7200hp(at exactly 51%), and then quit attacking alltgether. hitting the escape key quickly can cancel your target in between punches if you're worried. you cannot go below 51%.
Hunter 2 immediately fires Wyvern sting, putting the target to sleep, and you disengage backwards, giving yourself approximately 30 yards. With an eye on his wyvern sting timer, count down till the time is at 14 seconds left. Not exactly at 14, but just after the 14 second count, cast your beast taming spell.
What should happen, if done corectly is: Garwal will start taking damage from Wyvern Sting's poison just right before your tame finishes, dropping him to below 50%. At 50% he transforms from a wolf into a humanoid worgen.
Since humanoids are untameable, if your timing is just right, and your tame goes off right as he turns, you will tame his humanoid form instead of his wolf form, thus ending up with a badass Gnoll for a pet :D
It's very difficult to get the timing right and you might have to try it a couple of times to get it properly done. but it's totally worth it. The Worgen pets are just stunning. their run, walk, jump, swim, and idling animations are unlike any other pet in the game.

The pet, much like the ghost hydra & slime, behaves technically as a beast, in this case a wolf, thus it retains all the wolf attributes, i.e: ferocity tree, as well as the +DPS power, 'Furious howl'.
NOTE: there is as-of-yet unconfirmed reports that once the pet levels it reverts to a normal wolf, but this has yet to be proven.
Also, if you tame it and log out, it show you as having a wolf for a pet. This isn't technically a mistake, but only upon logging back in is your pets real form revealed. happy hunting!
